Summer Brenner

Summer Brenner is author of a dozen books of poetry and fiction, including three award-winning novels for youth: Ivy, Homeless in San Francisco, Richmond Tales, Lost Secrets of the Iron Triangle, and Oakland Tales, Lost Secrets of The Town. Copies of Richmond Tales were initially distributed to over 4,000 youth for summer reading, igniting a community-wide conversation about reading and inspiring an annual “Richmond Tales Health and Literacy Festival.” It won Historic Preservation and Human Rights awards from the City of Richmond; and in 2015, it was selected by the California Teachers Association for their Read Across America campaign. In 2014, Oakland Tales was published and adopted into the Common Core for Oakland middle schools. Oakland Councilwoman McElhaney called it, “A book for this generation of Oakland youth.” Currently, Brenner is working on a plan to create a “Lost Secrets” template for school districts and communities nationwide.
