David King

An industry expert with more than ten years of experience leading the strategic vision and promotion of diversity and inclusion (D&I) at
complex global organizations, David King has the innate ability to make D&I relevant to all parties – allies, skeptics, and everyone in between.  But more than a D&I practitioner, David embraces the concept of diversity and inclusion in his personal and social spaces.  Be it in the boardroom, a chatroom, or his living room, David consistently champions for fairness, equity and collaboration. David joined Airbnb in 2016 as the company’s first Director of Diversity and Belonging. David started his diversity career at the US Department of State where he served as the Chief of Diversity Management and Outreach for the cabinet-level agency with 25,000 American and 45,000 local employees around the world. In this capacity, David advised both Secretary of State  Condoleezza Rice and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on issues ranging from same-sex domestic partner benefits to the recruitment and retention of diverse Foreign Service Officers. Prior to joining Airbnb, David served as the Director of the Office of Civil Rights and Diversity for the Peace Corps. In his capacity as director, David oversaw Peace Corps’ global civil rights, equal employment opportunity, alternative dispute resolution, anti-harassment, reasonable accommodation, and diversity outreach programs. David also has a strong background in education, having taught law, government and Black History before  turning to federal service. David completed his bachelor’s degree in political science with a concentration in mathematics.  He later went on to earn a law degree and a master’s degree in education. Originally from the Philadelphia area, David is an unapologetic champion of all things Philly.
